Dear Parents,
This week we welcomed a new friend to the Blue Room family: Avi! We also continued our Rosh Hashana unit. Here are some highlights from the week:
Art
This week our friends used bubble wrap and yellow paint to create honeycomb like textured pictures for Rosh Hashana. As our friends painted they also had fun squeezing the air bubbles from the bubble wrap and watch the paint splatter onto the paper.
We also painted with watercolors this week. Exploring watercolors was fun. Our friends are learning how to follow a multiple step process. First, they had to wet their paint brush, then choose a color to use, and finally rinse their brush with water again to change and use a different color. They enjoyed blending colors to discover new ones on their paper. For example, we discovered yellow and blue make green!
Math/Fine Motor
The children have been so interested in the Geo boards this week. They were invited to create symmetrical lines and geometric shapes. Our friends were fascinated by how they could manipulate their rubber band to make different shapes.
We also enjoyed doing shape and size puzzles. They did puzzles matching the correct shape to the correct size. When our friends were done the morah pointed out the smallest shape and the biggest shape. Our friends are learning to discern the similarities and differences in colors and shapes. They use those same skills to recognize the difference between letters and numbers. In addition, early recognition of shapes is correlated with our friend's ability to recognize letters.
Science
This week, our friends were invited to clean up and examine some shofars from Rabbi Dietsch. There were a variety of shapes and sizes some were smooth and some were so rough. Some were spiral shaped and some looked like a banana shape! Our friends pretended to blow the shofar like Rabbi does in Shul.
We are wishing you a beautiful new year with your loved ones and a restful, peaceful Shabbos.
Morah Felicia and Morah Shayna
