Color Fun!

This week we explored colors!  Our friends had so much fun exploring colors in all sorts of new ways.  One of the ways we explored colors was through our color match games.  We laid out all sort of different color and texture materials, then our friends would match the same color and piece together a canvas.  This was a great way for our friends to use their fine motor skills to pick out certain colored material from a pile.

Another fun way we learned colors this week was through science!  We did two experiments this week.  The first experiment we did was dyed water four different colors, red, blue, yellow, and green, then placed a stalk of celery in the water.  After a couple of days, our friends noticed that the celery "drank" the different color waters and the leaves on the celery changed.  Our friends were so excited to see the leaves change everyday.  The next experiment we did was with milk, soap, and food coloring.  We started with milk and then our friends added different food colors to the milk.  Then our friends watched in amazement when we added the dish soap!  The colors started to swirl and mix creating new colors.

Lastly, our friends were fascinated with the book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear".  It was a fun and interactive way for our friends to learn colors.  We used paint swatches for our friends to hold up to the book to match and learn the different colors.  Our friends took turns finding and matching the color on the page of the animal.  It was a great way for our friends to communicate with one another and practice taking turns!

Welcome back to the first full week at CJP!  We hope you all had a great break and we're happy to have you back!

Thanks,

Passover has Arrived

This week is our last week of exploring all the components of Passover.  Our friends were able to play a fun game they will play during Passover.  We hid a bag with matzah inside, called the afikoman, and our friends had to find it!  Our friends used team work and communication to narrow the search down.  Once they found it, our friends cheered with excitement.

Our class had fun feeling and learning about different textures this week.  Our friends were able to touch and feel matzah.  There are many differences we found between matzah and regular bread.  Some children noticed it was "bumpy" and "hard" and regular bread is soft and smooth.  Our friends are so excited to see matzah on their Passover tables.

Lastly, our friends had a blast exploring with our moon sand!  It is very soft and was a great sensory activity for the week.  We were able to mold it into all sorts of things.  For example, we made cookies, cakes, hand prints and more.  Our friends used their motor skills to scoop and pour into different shaped containers with spoons and ladles.

We hope you all have a fun and safe Passover break!  We will miss you all dearly and can't wait to see all our smiling friends faces when we return from break on Thursday April 20th!

Thanks,
