 Dear Parents,

This week in our classroom we wrapped up our Shabbat Unit and finished our Shabbat projects that we hope you use and enjoy for many years to come. Thank you for joining us at our annual Shabbos Party on Friday!  Here are some highlights of our week:

This week our friends joined the Green Room and explored clay a little more. Our friends were invited to mold and shape their clay.  They enjoyed how the clay felt. We encouraged the children to add water as they worked with the clay.  As they did so they noticed the texture of the clay changed. They used words like "slimy," "slippery," and "sticky" to describe what they felt. Once they had their desired shape we stuck a candle in to make our Shabbat candle holders. Finally our friends added special jewels and gems .

This week we also added the word "Shabbat" in Hebrew to our Challah covers.  This was great for fine motor as well as letter recognition.  The children chose their own favorite colors to use and stamped on the letters themselves.

To conclude our Shabbat unit, we packed special spices to use and smell for Havdalah.  We discussed this is the time to say goodbye to Shabbat and see you next time. We are so grateful that we were able to see all of our friends and families to celebrate this holiday that we enjoy every week.

Wishing you all a beautiful Shabbos,

Morah Felicia

Dear Parents,
Here are some highlights of our week:

Table Top
This week Morah introduced some basic braiding techniques to our friends using clay.  We can't wait to practice on our challah dough. Our friends also worked hard using tongs to pinch and count raisins in Challah.

Art
This week our friends were invited to use watercolor paints and eye droppers to create a colorful challah cover and work on their fine motor skills.  The children enjoyed watching the colors splash against their fabric.

Sensory
On Friday, in our sensory table, we used dish soap, water, sponges, and dish towels, so our friends had the opportunity to wash dishes and get them clean for Shabbat. How do we prepare for Shabbat?  We wear nice clothes, we go grocery shopping, we cook a yummy meal, and we clean!

Thanks for a great week! Wishing you all restful Shabbos.

This week we started focusing on Shabbos concepts.  What does Shabbos mean to you? What are some things we do on Shabbos? We kept these questions in mind as we set up our centers.  At the end of our Shabbat Unit our friends will take home their very own "Shabbat Box"  with some essential pieces they can use each Shabbat, hopefully for years to come.  Our class will be making challah covers, candle stick holders, and Kiddush cups.  Here are some highlights.

Table Top/Loose Parts

We created Shabbos candles by putting loose parts, such as buttons and bottle caps, on top of candle templates. We also identified the word "Shabbat" in Hebrew by tracing the letters (Shin, Bet, Taf) on tile with loose parts!

Art

Our friends painted their very own Kiddush cup this week. They used sponges and brushes to create texture and dimension. Once they were dry, we added gems and glitter for extra sparkle.

Community

On Thursday we celebrated Shmuel's 3rd Birthday!  We discussed all the exciting new tasks Shmuel will get to do such as getting his very first haircut, wearing tzitis, and wearing a kippah.  We made birthday cake together and gave extra tzedakah in honor of Shmuel.

On Friday we made our own challah dough from scratch! The children got to explore what kind of ingredients are used to make bread and had the opportunity to pour those ingredients, watch the yeast bubble, and mix the dough. After the dough was given some time to rise, we shaped our dough to put in the oven. We hope our friends enjoy their homemade challah this Shabbos because they worked so hard on it!

Next week will continue exploring more about Shabbat.

Wishing you a restful Shabbos,

Morah Felicia

Dear Parents,

Welcome back from Pesach break! I hope you all enjoyed your time with family over the holiday.   Everyone was so excited to get back into the classroom.  This week we took the time to get reacclimated to our daily routine.

This week we welcomed a new friend to our class, Chumi Rimler!
It was great to see how eager the children were to play and learn with each other.

Social Emotional
Snack and lunch are such great times for conversations. Our friends waited so patiently as they took turns sharing what they did over their Pesach break.

Morah Felicia- Who ate Matzah over break?
Shmuel- I just do kiddush and drank a whole cup of wine.  I just do 4 cups of wine.
Chumi-  I like matzah with cream cheese. We eat kiddush and matzah
Luka- Yeah, I put my feet in the ocean.
JJ- I eat matzah for Pesach.
Abigail- I spent time with Ana.

Next week we will be starting our Shabbos unit.  We'll be learning all about Shabbos!
Wishing you a peaceful Shabbat.
